It is tough to enter the ward where a beautiful teenage girl - the owner of her big beautiful eyes - is laying weak in a bed and devouringly caresses her hair that used to be curly.
It is tough to see the bunch of kids in a place where they should not belong to.
Over the last year the members of our chamber and other private people joined number of our initiatives to help us collect money. We are thankful for people who didn’t pass by our charity boxes at Dublis Restaurant, Ecotel Hotel, every time at our monthly member meetings and events; we are thankful for those who cycled for charity, held charity box at the Sunday Mass before Christmas, brought up famous Danish artists and musicians for an amazing Charity Christmas Show, bought lottery tickets and donated prizes for the lottery, bought pictures and did other little but at the same time big things.
Thereupon, one sunny spring-day we visited Kaunas hospital and had a talk with the head of children department prof. Rimantas Kevalas. We are glad we were able to help them.
Annually, there are nearly 500 children with blood or oncology diseases at Kaunas hospital. These children are treated with chemical preparations, often violating their heart. These patients need to register cardiac activity all day long. The only available equipment that can monitor heart activity is worn out and does not meet the requirements of today’s treatment methods. Thus, we agreed to help them to purchase new equipment – a digital Holter recorder - that will help to improve treatment and recovery of chemotherapy effected kids.
If there is at least something we can do about cancer sick children – we do it and only with a help our members, friends and strangers :)
